Classic KOTOR sequel

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords is a premium role-playing game where the players take control of The Exile, following the events of the first Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR). In a time when the Jedi Order is all but extinct, the player can choose to restore the order with the light side or turn completely to the dark side.

Despite being released in 2004, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II remains one of the best games in the Star Wars franchise, thanks to its superb writing and character designs.

Guide the Exile to the crossroads

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II continues where its predecessor left off as the player-controlled protagonist restores the connection to the Force. Choices in the game lead the Exile toward the light or the dark side, with their decisions helping or stopping the Republic in bringing peace to the galaxy. Aside from the story progression, the player’s alignment also determines the party members who can join their quest.

While the graphics and animation didn’t change much from the first KOTOR, there are new locations in this sequel. From the Peragus Mining Facility to the now-iconic Sith cruiser Ravager, the set designs are consistent with the Star Wars feel while also connecting to the first game. New lightsaber forms have been added for varied combat and navigation experiences. Lastly, you still have mini-games to pass the time.

The writing of its story and its characters have made the game timeless. However, it is not without its flaws. Even at the time of its release, the graphics have been described as dated and half-baked. Additionally, the game felt largely incomplete at the time of its release. The glitches range from asset loading to AI wayfinding, which made some playthroughs difficult.

An imperfect yet must-try sequel

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II offers a compelling continuation of its predecessor, allowing players to guide the Exile towards either the light or dark side while influencing the fate of the Republic. Despite consistent Star Wars aesthetics and new locations, dated graphics and incomplete aspects mar the experience. Nonetheless, its timeless storytelling and character depth ensure its enduring appeal, enhanced by varied combat options and engaging minigames.
